Before I work with any client, I think it is extremely important to clarify my training philosophy.

My approach combines behavior science and understanding how genetics play a key factor and bridging the gap between a balance of positive reinforcement and calm discipline.

Balanced Dog Training refers to any approach to dog training or behavior modification which involves the use of both reward based techniques, and what your dog perceives as a consequence.

I believe in training the dog presented to me. Every dog has a unique personality and requires different techniques to achieve success. The four most basic reasons a dog comes to me are as follows:

1. Lack of discipline. The animal has too much control over its environment, and receives no consequence for acting out, leading to escalation of bad behavior.

2. Lack of communication. The animal doesn’t understand what you’re asking of them.

3. Lack of confidence. The animal has had mental or physical trauma that keeps them from responding to you, or needs more structure in their life as they mature.

4. Basic needs not met. The animal has developed major anxiety or behavioral issues due to the lack of mental stimulation, or some other need not being met.

That being said, a few parts of my method remain consistent. I will always clearly communicate what behaviors I encourage by using rewards, and what behaviors need to be altered by using calm discipline. As stated above, the discipline can vary depending on the dog and the situation. A consistent, clear ‘good’ and ‘no’ are the first two words any training dog of mine will learn.

I’ll always  do whatever is necessary to educate your dog, because training is a must when living with any dog. I pride myself in creating consistent, solid dogs no matter the circumstances.
